Depression

What Depression Really Feels Like

Depression is often misunderstood. It’s not simply sadness—it can feel heavy, dull, empty, or exhausting. Many people describe moving through their days on autopilot, disconnected from pleasure or motivation. Tasks that once felt manageable can suddenly feel overwhelming.

At Lodestone Psychology, we recognize that depression often develops in response to prolonged stress, loss, trauma, or unmet emotional needs. It is not a personal failure.

Common Signs of Depression

Depression can affect emotional, cognitive, physical, and relational functioning. You may notice:

  • Persistent low mood or numbness

  • Fatigue or sleep disruption

  • Loss of interest or pleasure

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness

  • Withdrawal from others

Our Therapeutic Approach

Depression therapy is gentle, collaborative, and realistic. We work at your pace, understanding that energy and motivation may be limited. Therapy often focuses on:

  • Identifying patterns that maintain depression

  • Rebuilding emotional range and meaning

  • Addressing self‑critical thinking

  • Supporting behavioural activation in manageable steps

  • Processing grief, trauma, or burnout when relevant

We draw from CBT, ACT, and relational approaches while prioritizing emotional safety.

Many clients seek therapy due to work burnout, caregiver fatigue, or major life transitions. We offer therapy that respects both your internal experience and external realities.

You don’t need to feel ready or hopeful to start therapy. If depression is weighing on you, support is available.
